Vented Disc For A Mk2 With Alloy Callipers

By Jim Peall

A good place to start is with the disc, the vented disc is from a Nissan van (dba part number  627 ) this is the same sizes as a Mk3 solid disc all it needs is a spacer ring turned up for the centre because the vented disc is larger than the Mk3.  You will also need to redrill the hub to suit bolt holes on disc which places the holes between the original holes

Next step was the calliper bracket which uses all 4 backing plate bolt holes and was made to be as tall as the outside of the disc so a stub axle  support can be fitted.(old rally trick)

The alloy brake callipers are off a VN/VP Holden Commodore, you can use VR/VT callipers if you are after that finned look i went with the VN/VP for that smoother 60s look.

I did manage to get full brake pad contact on the disc.

The struts also have gas inserts from a Toyota Cressida.

I picked the Toyota over the commodore strut because it has a larger diameter shaft and longer travel but it is still not as long as a zephyr Mk2 so the top of a Mk2 strut was cut off then drilled and tapped to take the Toyota strut bringing it up to a Mk2 overall length and still taking the Mk2 bearing top, a spacer is needed in the strut with the Toyota strut insert and to finish off the strut bump stops were fitted to the shafts.

Time to go back to the shed.

Jim.
